WEATHER CONDITIONS

Season phenology: early

Weather conditions:

Spring was early (snow cover disappeared in the first week of June), and the summer was warm and dry.

Season temperature: warm
Season humidity: dry
Date of 50% snow-cover:
Date of ice-break on rivers:
Date of final loss of snow: early June

BIOTIC CONDITIONS

Rodents abundance evaluation:

high

Breeding conditions:

The community of waders in the area of Kamenny Mys (Middle Yamal) was typical (in comparison with previous years). Ruffs and Red-necked Phalaropes were more numerous than usual, but Little Stints were almost absent (they moved more to the north). Incubation success of waders was very high: 82% in studied nests). The situation in the northern part of the Yamal was similar. During heavy rain on 18 July many small chicks of Little Stints and in some other species died, and chicks were frequently taken by skuas. Generally the breeding season was very good.

Rodent dynamics:

The density of lemmings (especially of Siberian Lemming) was very high, but there were very few mammal predators.

Rodent species recorded:

Lemmus sibiricusabundant
